Plain Jane was bred by Michelle Hermann of Grafton, who also showed her at Halter as weanling and yearling in unregistered classes (before Paint-bred classes were approved). Her sire is Painted Peppy, a chestnut overo, the dam is Pearly Shells, a black Quarterhorse. She was purchased at 20 months old, broken in by Barbara, and then used by Stefan for general mustering. In April 2001 Stefan went to his first ever show with her, and came last in most beginner classes, including the 2 handed cutting, where they lost 5 cows. That's when Stefan realised that the showring is not the back paddock.
Within 12 months they were winning the Open Cutting, Open Barrel race, Open Keyhole race, Open Working Cowhorse. With Barbara in the saddle Plain Jane won in Hunter Under Saddle and English Pleasure, and with Barbara by her side she'd even win Halter classes.

(photograph by Simon Hughes). Whilst she did overrun the cow and needed to be pulled up, she did end up catching back up with the cow and holding her again.
Her current achievements as of March 2003 are:
